help center - voice faq
1. how do I get the best voice quality?
We've tested it out quite a bit and we recommend that you use headphones when talking on WooMe – why's this? Well the speakers on your computer tend to create a bit of an echo, which makes it less pleasant to talk to people (annoying even). When you put on headphones (even the ones from your iPod will do) then you don't get any echo (and you also get a bit more privacy for your conversation).
If you'd like to use a full headset then that's ok too – but we've found that most computers around tend to have pretty good built in mics (but if your in-built mic is not working for some reason then the best thing to do is use a headset – just like you might use for a Skype conversation).
2. I am not sure if the other person in the session can hear me. how can I check if my mic is working?
- You should see a green bar on the right side of the video / voice window in the middle of your browser. If this bar is moving up and down then it means your mic is working fine and is sending your voice to the other person
- If its not moving, then that means that your mic is not working correctly
- To check your mic you can't be in a session. Go to your profile page and hit the webcam icon and it will take you to your settings tab
- Select a mic from the dropdown and then start speaking. If the green bar starts moving in the ‘mic test' area they you have selected the right one. Save your preferences.
3. there is a high-pitched sound coming from my speaker when I turn my volume up – what's wrong?
The high-pitched noise is caused by a feedback loop picked up by your mic. You can adjust this in a few ways:
- Move the microphone away from the speakers and closer to your mouth
- Lower the microphone volume in your sound settings
- Use headphones
